As we enter the back half of August, you can begin to feel the change in the air of American sports. While baseball has dominated the sports world since the conclusion of the World Cup, the end of summer means football is fast approaching. While baseball is and has always been my favorite sport, part of me has always craved the meaningfulness and intensity of every game of College Football, as well as the extreme talent and storylines of the NFL.

The approach of college football has captivated me more than ever this year, ironically more and more with each passing year that I am removed from being in college myself. That likely has to do with the fact that I went to Rutgers, which has underwhelmed since joining the Big10 (my freshman year) and even before that, truthfully. That being said, maybe this is the year for Rutgers football? A common theme in my football misery: rooting for the Jets and Rutgers. Groundhog-daying myself at the beginning of every season to have enough hope to convince myself that all the issues have certainly been sorted and rectified.

Future

I am eagerly awaiting week 0, which is absurd in its own right, to watch what seems to be a dysfunctional North Carolina team play TCU. Honestly, I’ll also find myself searching for a stream of Maine vs Towson the day before. I do not care how uninspiring the matchup is; I just long for some football.

So, this brings me to my challenge, the challenge that I will hold myself to. A challenge that no one has asked me to do. But most importantly, a challenge that no one cares about. I am going to bet the spread on every single D1 college football game and every single NFL game this year.

Now, for clarification, I will not be actually gambling on most of these games (my wife would likely disapprove of this losing endeavor). I am going to select each pick and enter them into my Action Network app, which I accidentally re-paid for this year. I will bet the spread of each game, with a unit of $25 each game. Then, I will select a game or so to actually wager on, and will notate that somewhere (details have clearly not been ironed out, but that’s okay; there is still time).

It will be fun to see how poorly this goes and recap my selections as I go. The main thing I want to ensure is that I, well, follow through. I’ll use my Podcast as an example, or the lack thereof. I have on two occasions declared I would create something, and then I look back, and life gets in the way, I suppose. Maybe third times the charm? Maybe not.

Goals

Either way, most of my goals for the season are clear, but I will add a 3rd.

  1. Make a selection on every single FBS College Football game and NFL game
  2. Track these bets on Action, and start a podcast
  3. Attend 3 NCAA/NFL games in person, hopefully at 3 different stadiums

This has gone on for a bit, but I hope that this is the start of many, many unread posts. Here is a short I made that is not relevant to this at all.
