Every season, there are a few teams that turn into success stories that wind up beating the odds, literally. Teams that no one thought had any potential to do anything, wind up shocking the world.
Below are a few teams that I expect to beat the odds on DraftKings Sportsbook Win Totals.
Jacksonville Jaguars: 11 or More Wins +260
The Jaguars had a great start to 2023, starting the season 8-3. They began getting a lot of talk about how far they can truly go, and if this was the year Trevor Lawrence took them to the promise land. This was coincidentally right around the time their season fell apart, losing 5 of 6 to miss the postseason entirely.
This year can be different. Another year of experience for Lawrence, who was looked at years prior to arrival in Jacksonville as a future star, cannot hurt their case. The wide receiver core has been revamped, adding Gabe Davis from Buffalo as well as LSU star Brian Thomas Jr to go along with Christian Kirk. The weapons will be there for Lawrence, and the defense (specifically the secondary) has taken a different approach, essentially cleaning house. I see the Jaguars going at least 11-6 in 2024, with an upside for 12-5.
Dallas Cowboys: 13 or More Wins +400
Ambitious? Yes. But this feels like a season where Dallas will dominate, even if they lost some stars in the offseason. The main core is back, with Dak Prescott and superstars Cee Dee Lamb and Micah Parsons. Taking some risks on over the hump veterans, including former Cowboy star Ezekiel Elliot, the Cowboys will hope to continue their consistency as a top NFC playoff contender.,
Dallas will need to take advantage of their division, with the Giants expecting to have another down year and Washington trying out another rookie quarterback. Taking those 4 games alone will put them in a good spot, through in a split with Philly and some wins against the weaker teams on their schedule, and they may be right around 12 or 13 wins come January.
Las Vegas Raiders: 9 or More Wins +245
A winning season gets the Raiders to 9 wins, and while Vegas fans may be the only ones optimistic, it is not entirely crazy. The offense, in all cases, rises and falls on the competency of the quarterback. Currently, Vegas has two options, Aiden O’Connell and Gardner Minshew II. They ran with a solid defense in 2023, one that played hard for their interim, now official, head coach.
Does the addition of first round pick Brock Bowers give either quarterback a lift with paired with Davante Adams? It could truly give defenses a lot to handle in 2024, especially if Zamir White can handle himself again on the ground. They always play hard, and some teams, even more talented teams, can get beat by that alone (and some Vegas luck wouldn’t hurt).
